First, a message from our stormwater team in City of Madison Engineering:

Thank you for providing feedback on the Draft Final Watershed Study Report.

The City was tasked to determine what is necessary to mitigate flood risk in our community. The watershed studies accomplish that. The projects listed in the study show conceptual projects that, when all constructed, would allow the City to reach its flood targets. To ensure everyone had another opportunity to participate and review our study, we are asking for community feedback on the compiled report.

We are in the 30-day comment period for the final draft reports for this study. These study reports do not include final construction plans. The study and report provide potential solutions that would help alleviate the flooding issues. The report also shows the existing flood risk throughout the watershed to help inform residents and property owners if they are in flood prone areas.

For the solutions in the report to be constructed, they need to become a “budgeted construction project”. Whether any proposed solutions are accepted and proposed for a budgeted construction project is an entirely separate process. That process will include careful consideration of comments obtained from this report plus additional engagement before any design is completed. Once a project is budgeted and preliminary design is completed, we will begin another period of engagement and feedback with the community that will last throughout design process.

Our team has worked hard to gather information, data, and feedback to put together these conceptual solutions. We’re thankful for the feedback so far and encourage comments so we can capture the concerns and thoughts of the community.
